The Bible - the most famous, most published, most translated and most read book in the history of mankind - has changed the lives of (and given hope to) billions of people around the globe today, and perhaps a trillion people since Moses wrote the first part of it so long ago. So... do you read it?

I am so sorry this took me so long to respond to.  In short I have to say you have a very interesting view of the Bible it seems.  Changed the lives of, most translated, most read-all yes.  The hope thing…well, maybe on an individual scale, behind closed doors it has given people hope.  On a large scale it has done what every other Holy Book has done.

To answer your question, I have read the Bible.  When I was a child, I read the Bible in pieces, you know how they make you in Sunday School.  You read this verse and that and the pastor or your parents tell you what you should get from it.  Then later on I read it cover to cover a few times.  And I think everyone should do that at least once, to not just the Bible but to every other major holy book that is currently affecting our world.  It provides great insights as to why our government holds certain laws, why certain wars can exist, why certain areas of the world behave differently than others.  So no, I don’t read the bible in the sense that I don’t continuously read it.  But I have read it a few times.

Hey, followers

I apologize. I’ve been very busy with a new job lately and have been terribly neglectful. I promise this will change soon! Have faith in me! In the meantime please be well.

Yeah, I know.  It’s a burden and a curse.

Chronically ill children more likely to be physically abused → timesofindia.indiatimes.com

Now, upon seeing this my heart was broken and my mind blown.  But it makes all too much sense to me. Related:

  • divorce rate among parents of Autistic children 23.5% (13.8% for parents of typically functioning childen)

Correlation?  Raising a child with any kind of special need is really effing difficult.  The constant worry, the constant cost, the lack of time for your own needs.  I can recognize all that.  This article, while eye opening, is missing a very big chunk of information that I bet will come with even bigger statistics, and that is the amount of chronically ill children who are emotionally abused.  Screamed at, berated, their complaints of pain or illness ignored, told to quit being babies, or that they are exaggerating.

What this shows me is that there needs to be more attention paid to chronic illness!  Yes, AIDS and Cancer are terrible, and it’s easier for people to feel compelled to donate to something that kills.  But what about the diseases that live?  People who are trying to live full and happy lives but are burdened by constant illness?  We need more funding, more study, better representation in health insurance policy, and more support.

Guys, I may be emotionally compromised right now.  I’m going to leave this here for you to read and maybe I’ll come back to it with more thought later.

Flourescent Light bulbs and Lupus → vancouversun.com

Many people with Lupus experience symptoms or flares that are triggered by ultra violet light.  Now, this article only speculates that Flourescent bulbs could pose a danger to those of us who experience Photo-sensitivity.  It’s likely possible, but I think right now I wouldn’t jump to throwing out all your flourescent bulbs.  Just be weary.  If you’re in your house and protecting yourself from the sun as normal but you are still experiencing symptoms, I would suggest then switching away from those light bulbs.

I’m going to guess that unless you’re standing directly underneath one, or if you lay on top of them to keep warm, you’re probably going to be ok.  But if I hear anything further on this, I will update.

“Theist debate is full of false dichotomies, but life is so much more interesting and varied than that. The real world is ambiguous. True and false, wrong and right, even such clear and “real” as the obvious and immutable duality of “male and female” are misleading and oversimplifying.” —

“I really don’t believe in abortion.” —

Justin Bieber, in the latest issue of Rolling Stone.

When asked “how about in cases of rape,” Bieber responded: “Um. Well, I think that’s really sad, but everything happens for a reason.”

Well is this really a shock to anyone?

And now I’ll NEVER respect him.

(via smokeandmiras)

Not that I respected him in the first place, but he’s being used as a religious influence for younger kids.  His movie is apparently all about spreading faith in Christ to youth.  Lovely.  Sad really.  Poor kid is being exploited for both his underdeveloped vocal chords AND his underdeveloped brain.

PLEASE, go talk to your doctors and ask them to include your case in the study.  We need to work together to come to results and answers to our many questions.

I just wanted to drop you a message to say hi :) I realised that I agree with pretty much everything you say and I really enjoy your blog, but I don't even know your name! So I thought I'd introduce myself properly. I'm Michelle, I'm 24 and I live in England

Hey Michelle, the feeling is so mutual!  My name is Diana, I’m 23 and I live in New York =)  It’s super nice to “meet” you.

Send Valentines Day cards to people in your life affected by Lupus → lupus.org

There’s an option to make a donation in their name as well, but it’s totally optional!  If you can, I hope you will do it, but if you can’t the ecards are cute all by themselves.  <3

Happy Valentines Day guys

Chronic Illness stories

Guys, I have gotten some really great submissions so far, and I love reading them.  Please, though, keep sending them in and encourage other people you know to send theirs.  This can be ANY story involving telling someone close to you about your Chronic Illness, a metaphor you might have used, and it can be sad or happy, sensational or dull.  And you can send in more than one!  Thanks guys, I’m LOVING your stories.  <3

Getting off my ass

Time to practice what I preach, aye?  If I want to see change in the Chronic/Invisible illness community, I can’t just expect that my blog reaching 50-100 people is going to do much toward that, can I?  It’s good for a start, but it’s not enough.  So, starting very soon I’ll be speaking publicly at local libraries, hospitals and NYSNA conferences.  Some dates are pending, so if you’re on Long Island, keep an eye out for a post with dates for different events.  Some of the events will be based on the concept of support, while others will be grounded in change.  I’ll be sure to specify which ones are which when I post dates.

Just wanted to leave a note and say while I don't really agree with your thoughts on the Spoon Theory, I like your general way of thinking when it comes to chronic illness. :)

And that is totally fine!  I’m glad you like most of what I’m posting about.  <3 have an awesome day.
